North Carolina Read to Achieve Information and Guidebook

The North Carolina Read to Achieve Guidebook serves as a structural framework for the North Carolina Read to Achieve program. The
various charts, narratives, and descriptions are the beginning phase of the Department of Public Instruction’s work with this
initiative.
The Read to Achieve program is a part of the Excellent Public Schools Act which became law in July of 2012 and applies to all schools at the beginning of the 2013-‐2014 school year. The law can be accessed through this link, http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2011/Bills/House/PDF/H950v7.pdf , (pages 38-‐45).

This guidebook gives a basic overview of all of the components of the program. There are many more details to be considered and developed. If you have questions, please call or email Carolyn Guthrie, Director of K-‐3 Literacy. carolyn.guthrie@dpi.nc.gov 919-‐807-‐3762
